Materials such as crushed rock are required to meet certain criteria. The criteria for say a Base Quality Class 2 Fine crushed rock is different to that of a Subbase Quality Class 4 Fine Crushed Rock. For example, Sections of VicRoads specifications set out requirements for plant mixed wet-mix crushed rock products including 20 mm nominal size Classes 1 and 2 base, 20 mm and 40 mm nominal size, Class 3 upper subbase and for Class 4 lower subbase.
There are also requirements for Earthworks including forming and grading of earthworks including excavation, placement and compaction of topsoil, Type A, Type B, Type C, permeable, oversize and unsuitable materials, disposal of surplus materials, the trimming of batters, surface drains and formation, and the preparation of the final earthwork surfaces and subgrade.
To assess the suitability of soils and crushed rock, Site Geotechnical can assist with classification tests including construction material testing.
To save valuable resources blends of crushed recycled materials such as crushed concrete, crushed brick, reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), slag and crushed glass may be used as Type A, B and C materials in earthworks applications.
Site Geotechnical regularly undertake Material compliance testing and assessment through test such as the Californian Bearing Ratio (CBR), Sieve Analysis (SA) and Atterberg Limits.
